IT'S. TOO. HOT.

It's too hot. :( I haven't made much this week because I've been in a constant hot weather sleepy-mode and I've also been out places. I'm sorry! D:

The one thing I did make this week does link into the weather, though, so do I  get + points for keeping a theme going..? No? Okay. :C

I actually have a story to go with this, so I guess that'll help fill this blog entry up a little. :'D

Here's the comic, I called it Tan Lines:

Basically what happened was I went to stay with relatives, we went to a party (gasp!) that was filled with people who were either a lot younger or a lot older than me, so I ended up sitting on a wall awkwardly for about 4 hours.

I get self concious about my arms so I couldn't take my hoodie off for longer than about 5 minutes, which combined with how hot it was resulted in a really silly looking tan line. I didn't realise until I had gotten home that I had a tan up to where my sleeves were rolled up, so now I look like I've dipped the lower quarter of my arms into the sun. :D 

Moral of the story - LEARN TO TAKE YOUR HOODIE OFF IN 25 DEGREE WEATHER. SERIOUSLY.

I am silly.

Someone take me to Disneyland

This week I've spent a lot of time on one piece and not much time on others, though I did get 2 Environments done as promised! No stern talking to for me, yaaaaay. :D

The first environment took me about 20 minutes and is some kind of snowy mountain thing:

 

There are some aspects of it that I could be happier with but I guess for 20 minutes it isn't too bad. :'D I definitely need to put a lot more work into environments if I want to get better at them, though.

The second one is more mountainy hill things, just without snow. :D This took about the same amount of time, possibly a bit longer:

Out of the two of them I think I prefer the first one, though the second one was more fun to work on. It was nice getting to mess with different colours that weren't just blue. :'D I MUST DRAW MORE.


The final thing I've done this week (which ate up the most time) is a digital painting of a guy called Tommy Des Brisay. He's a 22 year old Autistic Canadian who posts videos to youtube under the channel 'Lookyus' and I'd strongly recommend having a look. :) Tommy's constant joy and optimism towards life has been hugely inspiring to me and I couldn't not paint him. I think he's amazing. :D

I'm happy with how Pascal and Tommy came out (for the most part), though the background bugs me a little. I think it's probably the Perspective but I'm not sure. Either way, it was nice to work on and I hope that Tommy and his family like it! :D

I draw too many Korean Males

It's true. :( This blog post is going to be full of them, the next blog post will, probably, be full of them. It's an issue.

I'm actually a little disappointed that they're all I've been painting :'D it shows that I'm just sitting in what's turning into a comfort zone, which isn't cool. :( 

SO. If I don't have at least 2 environment pieces in my next blog entry, you guys are allowed to shake your fists at me profusely. And maybe call me names. Maybe.

The first painting I did is of Sehun from EXO with his annoying as hell to draw  beautiful rainbow hair. It's the first time I've ever attempted hair that's more than one colour and I still think it looks a bit thin and flat, but I gave it a go. 

Next up is Tao, also from EXO~ I think this one turned out better in terms of hair and it actually looks more like him, so yay! I think overall he took me just over 2 hours to paint which is a huge improvement compared to how slowly I used to paint. I do want to try and nail the idea of actually getting them to look a lot more real if I can, though.

That's all I've got this week ): though I have doodled down some stuff in a sketchbook that may or may not get turned into comics.

I also got hold of a copy of Color and Light by James Gurney which I'm very excited about. :D I haven't had time to read through much of it yet, but I like what I've read so far so I'm looking forward to putting some of the lessons from it into the works. (:

The last thing I did that I don't have any evidence of to show ( ;>_> ) is some Sketchup work of what I was hoping to turn into some kind of mountain scene but ended up losing, so that sucks. ): I'll be making another one, though! :D 

And FINALLY, on a non-games related note; I'm thinking of getting some of my character printed onto Stickers and Acrylic charms. I'm not 100% sure who I'll pick yet though I know I'll be getting some of my Tea and Monsters Logo, so I really I was just wondering if there's any interest there.

First Year: Get!

It's official, I passed first year! :D

I'm mega happy with the result I got :D there were some areas I felt I let myself down in along the year, so to pass with a grade I'm happy with came as a nice surprise. I can definitely say that I've been given extra motivation to give it my all next year so September, if you're reading this, please hurry up and get here!

Other than getting my grade, this week has been filled with a lot of half finished digital paintings and things I wanted to do but couldn't because of various reasons. Also for those of you that care, Jason got fired in the Apprentice. My heart weeps.* ): 

I did however, make a 'comic' about our new dog Toby. :D 

He's a huge cutie and very sweet but he just won't leave me alone. I don't really mind this because dog cuddles are the best but when I'm trying to work/draw/sleep or drink delicious tea and a Yorkshire Terrier decides to land on my knees, it can cause a few issues!

Something else that I guess I don't really need to talk about but would like to is the possibility of using a laptop that has UDK being snatched away from me... again. ;>_> The first time I thought that the charger was broken - my dad fixed it in about half a second by plugging the socket in properly. Yeah. That really happened.

This time, however, with the charger working and all looking great, I turned it on with high expectations to find a blue screen and a reboot 'Steph help me I'm broken' screen. Great! So now I don't quite know if I'll ever be able to form a bond with UDK, I guess it'll have to wait a little longer.

Sorry for the lack of content AGAIN. I may as well just change the title of this blog to that. Screw 'Life in Games Design', 'Sorry I didn't do squat' is where it's at.

"You posted WHAT on Youtube?!"

Apparently I started writing an entry with this title before I went to York but for some reason it went to drafts... ;>_> So here I am using it, finally! 

This week I've spent a lot of time away from my tablet in terms of personal projects as I've been moving back to Newcastle from uni for the holidays. Combine that with a housemate moving out and visiting my Grandma every day and you're left with not much stuff to show. Sorry. :C 

Fortunately, though, I do have some things to show! Not much, though they're better than nothing. :)


The first thing is the actual reason for the title of this post and can be found here.

I've always loved watching speed painting videos. Probably more than I should do, actually. Another thing I've always loved the idea of is actually making my own... and here it is! The quality isn't too great because I used the video that I got saved from a livestream of the painting, so I apologise for that. I have however figured out a way to do it in much better quality so the next one will be much better. :D 

Either way I hope you enjoy watching it if you do - I'd love to get some feedback on it. :)

The second thing I have to show this week is a digital painting. I've wanted to do another one for a while and since I had a friend's birthday coming up I saw it as the perfect opportunity! :D So, here's Bang Yongguk from B.A.P:

He was a tonne of fun to paint and actually didn't take as long as I thought he would :D it took me about 3 hours give or take. It's still a fair amount of time but I'm getting there!

Taking a step back from digital painting for a little while has made me realise how much I really enjoy it, so look forward to some more of these popping up in the next few weeks including the half finished one I'm currently working on.

That's all I've got for this week ): I'll have way more time to do my own thing come the end of June though, so this lack of things is only temporary. :D

I love Nintendo

So how about dat E3 conference? Things I learned while watching each one:

- I liked XBox's games
- I liked PS4's games better
- PS4 is a nicer price
- I'm cheap so will probably get PS4
- I still love Nintendo most

Okay, now that's out of the way, onto the art. :D 


This week I've mostly been making comics. :O Well, by mostly I mean I've made two... which is two more than last week! 

The first one is about Animal Crossing (of course) and how I'm incapable of talking to people about it in a calm and composed manner:

I actually posted this one onto my Tumblr and it got 760+ notes, so thanks everyone that liked/reblogged for that! :D It was a load of fun to make, so I'm happy that people seemed to like it.

Next is my second NON-Animal Crossing related comic. 

Instead, this one is about Mario Kart and my inability to play it like a sane person:

I didn't put this one on my tumblr, hence why the 'watermark' links to my Twitter instead. :'D

Other than these two comics, the only things I've really done have been more Animal Crossing Villager portrait type things because of how many people on Tumblr requested. ;>_> So here are those:

These (in order) are of Cyrus, Reese, Mabel, Stitches, Rosie and Tangy. The last 4 were actually done BEFORE I went to York, though obviously because I didn't post a blog I couldn't show you guys before now. Sorry!

That's all I've got for this week. I'm desperate to get back into digital painting so I want to do some studies, though with New Leaf releasing on Friday I can't make too many promises. >_> I will try!

In the Forest~

Lot's of forest related stuff going on this week - mostly down to Animal Crossing... :'D I WARNED YOU. 

I've done a little mix of things, though. Some digital painty stuff, some not so painty stuff and a model in Maya. I'm quite happy with what I've done this week, so I'll get on with it and start showing you what I did. :D 

I'll start off with the digital pieces I've painted:

This one was a request from someone on Tumblr called Kristen. :D She wanted me to paint her in the style of an Animal Crossing character and since I wanted to paint something along those lines I made this~ It was actually a lot of fun to work on, I really enjoy the style and it's always fun to discover new techniques. Might do a few more sometime. :)

Next up is another sooort of Animal Crossing related piece (;>_>) and is pretty much just an accurate representation of what I'm gonna be like when the game actually releases. :'D My face will be glued to the screen and I'll have it super close to my eyes because that's totally good for them.  

The 3DS model I chose was the Animal Crossing themed one, by the way! 

Moving swiftly on from all the fangirl related stuff, here is the tree stump I mentioned. :D I'm probably gonna go back and do a few more designs for this one because I screwed up the UV mapping  really enjoy painting wood textures, so maybe I'll have some more of these to show next week. ;D

Also just because it's probably kinda tricky to tell on the model, here's a closeup of some of the painting from the model itself:

It's a bit of a crappy size I know but it's SOMETHING. ;-; 

Finally to finish off, here's a picture of my favourite cat villager - Moe. He's a cutie and was fun to draw so why not. :D
